COVID-19 And It’s Impact On Tourism, What You Should Do If You Plan To Travel

FORT MILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) — We’re continuing to keep you updated on how COVID-19 is impacting the Tri-County’s economy.

We caught up with a couple of independent travel agents who say many of their clients have concerns about upcoming travel plans, many of whom planned trips up to a year in advance.

Now, they have questions about if they should move forward.

They say they are advising their clients not to panic and are urging them to refer to the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines.

The agents are saying, as small business owners, they worry that if travel restrictions continue, it could hurt their bottom line, but for right now, they’re working to get their clients questions answered.

“It’s my business, it’s my livelihood and as an individual agent if I don’t have customers I don’t make any income,” said Linda Murfin with Above the Crowds Travel.

“It’s definitely going to impact me, but you know you’ve got to look at the bigger picture too and you know when all this dies down and goes away, people are going to want to be getting away,” said Julia Lewis with Derive Vacations.

Both agents say they’d have the following advice for those who are still planning to travel within the next year – wait and see.

And for the trips that have already been cancelled, they are working with airlines and cruises to see what kind of credit can be used down the line. Pay attention to your cancellation polices and know your dates and policies that are now being put in place given this uncharted territory we are now in.
