The Rock Hill NAACP Speaking About the Chauvin Trial

ROCK HILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) The Rock Hill Branch of the NAACP holding a press conference in response to the verdict of the former police officer, Derrick Chauvin’s trial. Chauvin was found guilty on three charges involving the death of George Floyd, including murder. While the case may have been in Minnesota, the whole country responded.

Last summer after the death of George Floyd — a Minnesota man who died in police custody — the Rock Hill Branch of the NAACP was a part of peaceful protest in Rock Hill’s community. Now, the organization’s leaders say this guilty verdict means a new beginning for communities, where people are held accountable.

“The Rock Hill Branch of the NAACP, recognizes the fact that the death of George Floyd definitely made a remark about change in our country and today, this the verdict is a remarkable ending to that tremendous life of George Floyd.”

NAACP President Apostle Dr. Norma Gray says for those who constantly see inequalities in their communities and across the nation this moment will give them back some faith.

“You can trust, you can trust the justice system, you can trust the police, and sometimes that’s a very difficult message to get across. So, I’m hoping that people begin to see that, ‘Okay, maybe the justice system is equal, it can be.’ If we can learn to do that and press beyond the barriers that we’ve seen in the past,” says Gray.

Apostle Dr. Norma Gray says this guilty verdict was just the beginning of change in communities. She says there is still more work to be done in efforts being made toward equality for all.
