The 2020 Freedom Walkway Local Heroes Class: Reverend Dr. Ronal King

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) This year’s 2020 Freedom Walkway Local Heroes Class names have been announced.

Each year, the Freedom Walkway celebrates and honors individuals in the Rock Hill area, past and present, who have made sacrifices to promote “Liberty and Justice For All” residents of Rock Hill and York County.

Three people were named in this year’s class — Reverend Dr. Ronal King, The Winthrop Troublemakers and Reverend Robert George Toatley. We begin by introducing, Reverend Dr. Ronal King with Christians Feed the Hungry.

Many who know him know his popular phrase, ‘God Bless Your Beautiful Heart.’

Dr. King worked as a military policeman in the U.S. Army and a New York City Police Officer and he moved to Rock Hill in 1970.

Dr. King has dedicated his life’s work to serving the community’s poorest residents — helping them with food, shelter and transportation.

He shared on WRHI’s Palmetto Mornings about where he gets his inspiration to help others.

“Well honesty it comes from my grandmother who at the time during the Korean War she was feeding the Vets who were returning home… and they would be on the steps and she would feed them and I grew up under that,” says Dr. King.

Each year Dr. King feeds the community on Thanksgiving Day, but because of COVID Volunteers will not be gathering to put together meals, but if you would like to help Dr. King financially this year carry out his mission, you can call WRHI Radio.
