“Porch pirates” & scams this holiday season

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – Law enforcement leaders say porch pirates are already on the prowl this Christmas season – taking packages right off of homeowners’ porches.

In fact the day before Thanksgiving a porch pirate was caught on video stealing a package from a house in fort mill.

York County detectives believe the suspect is also involved in several similar cases from the holiday weekend.

In the Catawba Village neighborhood in Fort Mill, Trent Faris with the York County Sheriff’s Office says this alleged porch pirate in this picture was caught stealing an amazon package last week from a house on Hunters Dance Road.

The vehicle believed to be involved is a Silver GMC Denali. Faris says the subject in the photos is believed to be involved in 5 similar cases from Thanksgiving weekend in Fort Mill.

Faris shares some tips in an effort so community members will not become a victim:

“If you know that package is going to be delivered at 1 PM in the afternoon, make sure you’re home or a trusted friend or neighbor watch out for the truck and know its going to be delivered at that time. Amazon and some of these package delivery services have lockers you can have them sent to. I’ve seen them at gas stations. So on your way home you can pick them up. Have these ring doorbell cameras or a simple security camera so if unfortunately your package is stolen, we will have that picture of the subject stealing it and then that will help them track them”, says Faris.
