Hero on the Bus

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) Chris Crockett went above and beyond what any bus driver’s job description asks for.

When a young man in middle school told him he was picked on because he didn’t have the latest Michael Jordan sneakers, Chris couldn’t just let it go.  So he bought him a brand new pair.

“He was the last kid on the bus, so I handed him the shoes and he just brightened up like a star. He couldn’t believe it,” says Crockett.

When the school district got word of Crockett’s simple, and yet great, act of kindness, they honored him with a hero award.

In addition to being a Lancaster school district bus driver, Crockett also drives commercially for the city of Rock Hill.  He says even when he got the job in Rock Hill, he just couldn’t give up working with kids.

And he hopes that the pair of sneakers will inspire the student to one day give back as well.

“This young man will grow up and carry that in his life.  You know, he might be able to help out someone else,” says Crockett.
