Police Captain Becomes York’s Next Chief

CITY OF YORK, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – The City of York announced this Thursday morning Captain Brian Trail, a CN2 Hometown Hero recipient, will be sworn in as York’s next Police Chief on Tuesday, June 7th at 5:15pm.

This comes after current Police Chief, Andy Robinson announced earlier this year he would be retiring in June.

The City says they are excited to make this announcement this morning.

Trail has been with the department for 11 years and began his career as a patrol officer and worked his way up to patrol lieutenant.

He has also received awards such as Tender Heart Ministries Officer of the Year and York Electric’s Cooperatives high Voltage Hero.

Trail will take his seat as Chief next week.

Brian Trail Promoted to Chief of Police
York, South Carolina – June 2, 2022 – The City of York is excited to announce that Captain Brian Trail has been selected as York’s next Chief of Police. Captain Trail has served in the number two role at York Police Department for 11 years and has been with the department since 1989.
“I am truly humbled and honored to be chosen as York’s Police Chief,” stated Trail, “This
Department’s success is dependent on the wonderful staff that work here and I am excited to be leading them through the opportunities and challenges that this job presents.  I am proud of the partnerships we have with the community and will do everything in my power to lead this Department and community safely into the future.”

During his tenure with York Police, Trail has risen from patrol officer to the rank of Captain and has previously served as a narcotics officer, detective, and patrol lieutenant. Trail has been voted Officer of the Year twice by his peers, as well as receiving the CN2 Hometown Hero Award, Tender Heart Ministries Officer of the Year Award twice, and the York Electric Cooperative High Voltage Hero Award for his community service endeavors.

“We had a strong candidate pool, but the clear choice was Captain Trail as York’s next Chief,” said Seth Duncan, City Manager. “I have come to trust and respect Captain Trail, and believe his love and commitment for this community will continue to endure as Police Chief.”

Captain Trail will be sworn in as York’s next Police Chief on Tuesday, June 7th at 5:15pm. The community is invited to join in the event and welcome the City’s new Chief.
