One York County Mom Shares Her Son’s Tragic Story In An Effort To Save Others

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – One moment changed this York County family’s life forever. A camping trip and ATV ride, gone wrong, taking the life of a son at just 8 years old.

It was a Sunday afternoon when this Tega Cay mom got a phone call that she would never forget. She turned to social media to share her story and it’s gotten more than 100-thousand likes. There Lisa Glazebrook, shares, “I got a phone call from my son’s father that our 8-year-old child was in an ATV accident and being rushed to the hospital, they didn’t think he was going to make it…I was about an hour and a half away from the hospital. I drove there. While I was on the way there, his father called me back to tell me that he didn’t make it….the ATV flipped over and the roll cage his him in the back of his head. My entire world, my only child, was taken away from me.”

8-year-old Hampton Glenn Davis passed after his accident in Iredell County, North Carolina. Hampton’s mom says he was a special child, wise beyond his years.

Hampton’s mother, Lisa says, “He was so smart and he understood humor that I think most kids his age didn’t always understand it…and I just think he was too good to be here sometimes…”

At the time of his accident, Hampton was riding this vehicle without a helmet or seatbelt — his mom says those safety precautions could have made a big difference.

Lisa believes, “If those things were taken seriously and if Hampton had been wearing a seatbelt or a helmet, any one of those things would have saved his life and at this point if I could just raise awareness for other people, if I could save one life, then it would be completely worth it — because it’s the only thing at this point that makes me feel better.”

Trent Faris with the York County Sheriff’s Office, says, “If you’re an adult, be safe and if you’re an adult with a child on an ATV, be safe.”

Those with the York County Sheriff’s Office, say here in South Carolina there rules and regulations about who can operate ATVs. No one age 6 and under can drive an ATV, anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Faris says, “That’s the rules that they have in the state as far as ATVs….”

Now, Lisa is finding new ways to honor her son’s life.

“If that’s the only way that I can keep his memory alive, at this point I’m willing to do anything because I just want to get his story out there,” says Lisa.

In the video above, CN2’s Rachel Richardson is speaking with the Tega Cay mom who wants to share her son’s story as a way to keep other riders safe.
