Names Released In Deadly Shooting On Main Street In Fort Mill

FORT MILL, S.C. — The town of Fort Mill is still recovering after a deadly shooting on Main Street in downtown.

Police officers say a murder-suicide took place at the H and R Block on Monday where 68-year-old Deborah Buchanan was shot by 39-year-old James Vinton who then shot himself.

Both died on the scene. Authorities say Vinton was Buchanan’s son-in-law.

Folks in the area say they were shocked to hear about the deaths in their small town.

Connie Callahan says her parents live a few blocks away from the H and R Block. She says shootings like this hardly ever happen.

“I feel safe, ya know, I mean, this is a nice community to live in. It’s very beautiful and real nice people. Some people are nice, some aint, ya know, but that’s just about it,” Callahan. “It’s just real sad. I feel for the family and I pray that God will touch them and touch their families.”

Callahan says she’s been living in Fort Mill for 20 years. Town staff saying they’re simply heartbroken for the family.

Autopsy results are still pending, according to the York County Coroner.

For now – no motive behind the shooting has been released.

The H and R block on Main Street is closed until further notice.
