Life or Death

The Death Penalty is a much talked about and debated issue.  When someone is on trial, we often hear the side of the person whose life depends on that one issue.  And yet the final verdict affects a lot of people — including the families of the victims.  In this special in-depth report, we hear the stories of two families who found themselves in that exact situation.

The story of Rebecca Eudy’s death shook Lancaster County in 1980.  She was 18-years-old when she was kidnapped, raped and shot.  Her body was discovered in a field just days later.

“She didn’t come home that night, and that was totally not like her. If she was going to be out late or whatever, she would call Mama. She would make sure that mama knew where she was at.” Her oldest brother, Larry Eudy, still lives in the pain of losing his little sister.

The man convicted of killing her was sentenced to death, and executed 18 years later.

Elsewhere in Lancaster County, a mother mourns her son’s death.  Deputy Brent McCants was a deputy for the York County Sheriff’s Office.  He was killed in the line of duty 26 years ago.  The man convicted of his murder — still on death row.

“I know that half my heart is gone,” Says Myra McCants, Deputy McCants’ mother.
