SLED Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in York County

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating and incident where shots were fired during a confrontation between and armed man and a deputy from the York County Sheriff’s Office.

This is in the area of Steen Circle at Neely’s Store Road in the Lesslie community.

York County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic violence call. The armed man was shot during the incident and has been taken to the hospital. The deputy involved was not injured.

SLED’s involvement is standard procedure and policy when there is an officer involved shooting.

SLED holds law enforcement officer involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident.

When requested to investigate an officer involved shooting, the agency’s goal is to conduct a thorough, independent criminal investigation as timely as is possible.

SLED says this is an ongoing investigation and no other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time.

The incident in York County is the 32nd officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2020 and first this year involving York County Sheriff’s office.
