Remembering Mayor John Howard

LANCASTER, S.C. (CN2 NEWS)  Lancaster Mayor John Howard died Tuesday night after a battle with lung cancer.

“It’s a tremendous loss. That kind of institutional knowledge that John had about municipal operations – you just don’t replace something like that over night,” says Lancaster County Administrator Steve Willis.

Lancaster remembering the man who dedicated his life to serving his community.  Mayor John Howard spent 33 years on the Lancaster City Council before becoming mayor in 2016. A Lancaster native, he had great visions for his beloved city and its downtown area. And while his time to bring those visions to life was cut short, the impact he left on Lancaster is still great.

“I didn’t know anybody who loved the city more than Mayor Howard,” says Lancaster City Administrator Steven Hutfles.
