Join The Rock Hill School District on its Mission to Educate

ROCK HILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – The Rock Hill School District is giving everyone a chance, hoping adults will consider joining their team as a staff member.

With a little more than a month before those doors open there are more than 150 jobs that need filling.

Lindsay Machak, Director of Communications for the Rock Hill School District, spoke about the district’s upcoming recruitment fair with CN2’s  Zane Cina being held in a partnership with Clinton College on July 14th.

“The biggest thing is that some people may be bored with the career that they chose or they might be looking for a change or they might be wanting to explore another option, well this is a great time to come out and learn then more about Rock Hill Schools”, says Machak.

The recruitment fair isn’t just an opportunity for teachers to find a new home, but also many other staff positions within the school district.

“We’ll be looking for all kinds of jobs to be filled, so we’ll be recruiting for teachers, and then our facilities, transportation, food service, and human resources department will be there recruiting as well for positions they have open”, says Machak.

It’s not just Rock Hill School District looking for unique ways to bring on new hires, the state has also stepped in with various programs that encourage people to give teaching a try.

“We work with several partners across the state, one being pace, p-a-c-e, the others being Teachers-of-Tomorrow. Those two programs are supported by the state of South Carolina, and it allows a person to go through using the degree they already have, it doesn’t have to be in education, and it helps them add the education piece onto it”, Tanya Campbell.

That’s Tanya Campbell – the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the district
she says now teachers don’t need the traditional four year degree in education, but can instead find support from the school district to get them into a teaching position.

“We have some teachers who went to business, they were engineers, they were scientists, but now they’re in the class room teaching those very things they know, now they’re sharing it with our kids”, says Campbell.

The Rock Hill Schools Board of Trustees just passed the budget for next year and that included a raise for bus drivers bringing their starting pay to 17.5 and $2,279 raise for all teachers.

The Recruitment Fair will be Thursday, July 14th from 1 PM from 4:30 PM at Clinton College.
