I-77 Corridor Meeting

The York County Planning Department is in the middle of planning for the I-77 South Corridor Plan – but it wants to hear from residents, land owners and businesses first..

On Thursday – The county held a public meeting to give these folks a chance to provide input on the comprehensive plan that looks at future economic growth along two miles of I-77 south – from the Catawba River to the York County and Chester County line.
The county laid out different maps that consider land uses, locations that could be rezoned and possible areas that could be impacted by sewage lines or increased traffic.
Planning staff say the two-mile stretch on either side of the interstate is a prime location for big time employers and manufacturers that will bring jobs to the area.
A Chester County resident and her husband who have owned land in the corridor for three years hopes to develop it into some type of residential area for families. But what she doesn’t want to see is too much growth and over development that could hinder her from making money off the land she purchased.
You can also visit the county website and complete a corridor survey. That will be available through October 4th.
Last night’s meeting is just the first of several opportunities the public will have to voice their concerns about the corridor – before council makes the final decision.
