Hundreds March Peacefully Against Police Brutality In Fort Mill

FORT MILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) — Hundreds of protestors marched from the Walter Elisha Park to the Kingsley Shopping Center in Fort Mill in support of Black Lives Matter on Thursday.

The protest was completely peaceful as families and children of all ages walked together before taking a knee for victims of police brutality.

The entire event was organized by young people in their twenties, which they say is a sign of change.

Organizer Marquise Morris is just 22 years old.

“It’s touching me in heart because I didn’t know I had all of this power to bring people together and it’s also encouraging to see,” Morris said.

Protestors marched for almost three miles. Fort Mill Police blocked off roads to give them safe passage. Other organizations gave out snacks and hand sanitizer.

“We going to show ya’ll how it’s done here in Fort Mill, South Carolina. No looting, no violence, just peacefully,” Morris said.

“I feel like if you won’t come out here and do this, and if we don’t stand up – then people who really do care about this and the people who are affected by this then it just looks bad on us,” Zachary Badr said.

Kenneth Walker marched with his 15-year-old granddaughter Tytiana Walker. He says he wants a better future for young people like Tytiana.

“I’m out here really because I’ve got 5 sons of my own. Black boys,” Walker said. “I just want to see them make it through life, age like I have and see their children do the same.”

“I want to see change because once I grow up and have kids, I don’t want them to go through this,” Walker said.

Protestors hope the steps they took will lead to change.
