Cold Weather Dangers: Use caution when heating your home

Lancaster County’s Fire Marshal says heating and cooking are the top causes of fire in the United States.
With temperatures dropping into the 40’s this week Rogers say they’ve already had one heating system fire this week.
To protect your home and family whether you use portable or central heating and air – Rogers says you should turn on your heating system slowly when doing it for the first time this year – and don’t do it right before going to bed. Make sure you can watch how it reacts first. If possibly it’s best to get it serviced by a professional first. If you’re using a space heater, make sure there is nothing within 3 feet of it. And never refuel your kerosene heaters inside of your home. Do it outside and make sure it cools down.
