BREAKING: Dive Team Recovers Body of Missing Swimmer in Catawba River

YORK, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) – York County Sheriff’s Department confirming dive teams have recovered a body from the Catawba River.

Authorities say friends were swimming in the river when one of them was struggling.  The victim tried to help their friend, but investigators say the victim then never resurfaced.

The dive team began searching Sunday around 6 PM and called off that search Sunday night to begin again this Monday morning to finding the missing swimmer.

York County Public Information Officer Trent Faris spoke on the importance of water safety while on the river saying be careful, be safe and be smart. Faris says “Especially on the Catawba River, it looks peaceful on the top and you can look over a bridge . . . If you plan on getting out and swimming on the river please have your life jacket, inner tube, something to keep you afloat so we don’t have another issue like we are having today.”

The family is asking for thoughts and prayers during this time.
