A Local Rock Hill Vietnam Veteran Is Given the Ramp He Needs

ROCK HILL, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) This past Saturday, August 8, a special delivery was made to a Rock Hill veteran in need. A ramp was donated by another veteran who has recently passed away and delivered by a member of the Oasis Shrine Legion of Honor Unit, Don Green.

Veteran Tony Ballard lives in a small town near Ashville, N.C. and his daughter, Michelle Cooper, lives in Rock Hill, S.C. – five years ago she moved both of her parents into a Rock Hill home so that she could care for them, and allowing them to maintain independence.

Ballard served in the Marine Corps. and worked at a fire department for 30 years. Due to severe health conditions, over the last few years, he’s been confine to a wheelchair. Cooper, his daughter, regularly takes him to doctor’s appointments and other activities – getting him up and down the stairs has become increasingly unsafe. Now, Toy is confined inside of his own home.

U.S. Air Force Veteran, Harvey Mayhill, stepped in to help. His friend, Kristine Nelson, reached out to him to see if he knew anyone who could help build an area veteran a ramp. As he was inquiring about ramps at a local home improvement store, he was approached by another veteran, Eddie Wrenn.

Mayhill discovered that an associate of Wrenn’s Oasis Shrine Legion of Honor Unit, a veteran, had died and his last wish was that his handicap ramp be given to another veteran.  The ramp would be coming from a small town near Ashville, N.C.
