ABITIBI-BOWATER LAYOFFS

MAR 11, 2010: ROCK HILL, SC -- One of our area's largest employers is laying off dozens of people, some of who had worked there for their entire lives.

Abititi Bowater confirmed today out of Canada that it did lay off employees at the York County plant saying all of this is a part of a "World-wide restructuring plan".

All of the forty people who lost their jobs were salaried workers at the Catawba Mill, which is the name of the York County facility.

Bowater merged with the Canadian company Abitibi in 2007.
